The Ontario government’s response to rising auto insurance premiums is “akin to bringing a bazooka to a pocket-knife fight” and as a result, the province is desperately in need of consumer watchdog organization, according to two personal injury lawyers writing for Law Times.

Canadian drivers worried by usage based auto insurance

Current usage based models in Canada use telematics machines to show in general how much a vehicle is used, under what driving conditions, and how it is driven. This general approach is becoming increasingly popular with providers, with most major companies confirming their adoption of this type of auto insurance. It is however becoming clear that usage based coverage will become even more specific and companies will be following the lead of U.S. based providers.
