Thousands of doctors practicing despite errors, misconduct – USA TODAY

A USA TODAY investigation shows that thousands of doctors who have been banned by hospitals or other medical facilities aren’t punished by the state medical boards that license doctors. “The peer review system is rife with bias, Levitt says, noting that doctors on the committees often are inclined to protect their colleagues — or go after those who cross or compete with them.”

Poverty impairs cognitive function

“Poverty consumes so much mental energy that those in poor circumstances have little remaining brainpower to concentrate on other areas of life, new research finds. As a result, those with few resources are more likely to make bad decisions that perpetuate their financial woes.”

Wake Up! Speak Up! Shake Up!

“The great increase in the percentage of unrepresented litigants is not due to a loss of public confidence in the justice system. It is due to the unavailability of legal services at reasonable cost. Litigants don’t choose to represent themselves. They have no choice, other than to do nothing about the legal problems that otherwise compel them to go to court without lawyers. ”

This Is What It Feels Like to Be Quadriplegic

Truly inspirational message. Speaks to all of us as Ontario legislators move forward on the changes and reduction in Catastrophic Impairment benefits. Who but those most challenged are deserving of the rehabilitation and benefits than those most injured? We all need to look to doing the right thing over profit and politics.

College of Psychologists of Ontario -Marlin, Richard G (Richard)

Ontario’s auto accident victims are legislated to attend Independent Medical Examinations (IMEs) when they make an auto insurance claim. Unlike any other visit to a doctor, claimants have no choice in who their assessor might be, that decision is made by their insurer. Claimants can be fined up $500.00 for failing to attend an examination as of June 2013. FAIR hopes that the Colleges in Ontario such as the CPO take their responsibility to provide oversight and protect the interests of Ontarians seriously and take appropriate disciplinary action to prevent vulnerable accident victims from harm at the hands of their members who provide Ontario’s insurers with professional opinions.
A hearing will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at Atchison & Denman Court Reporting Services, 155 University Avenue, Suite 302, Toronto

Contending with Chronic Pain

The World Health Organization has stated on recommendations set forth by the International Association for the Study of Pain that chronic pain treatment is a basic human right.1 The Canadian Pain Coalition at the September 3, 2010 International Pain Summit in Montreal stated that “access to pain management is a fundamental human right.2 And court judgments, including Martin vs. Workers Compensation Board of Nova Scotia, addressed severity of pain as a violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights.3
