As I near the three-year anniversary of my traumatic brain injury (TBI), I am once again reminded of how fragile I still am.
My TBI was the result of a slip and fall on an icy driveway in February of 2014. I had zero warning as my feet slipped out from under me and my skull took the full impact of my fall. I can still hear the god-awful sound of my skull hitting the pavement.
For all of the support groups out there that exist to serve victims of accidents, recovering from one can still feel like a lonely experience. It seems like nobody quite gets it. Nobody else was injured the way you were. They don’t have the same lasting pain. Their bodies hold the echoes of trauma in a different fashion. As such, it feels like you suffer by yourself.
After two straight quarters of increases, auto insurance rates in Ontario have now dropped — by less than one per cent.
